Meet Katie.

Katie Drablos was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. She continued her dance training post high school at Southern Methodist University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Dance Performance. Post SMU, she made to the move to the Big Apple in 2009.


A PROFESSIONAL DANCER.

Katie began her professional dance career in NYC as a Radio City Rockette. She danced in hundreds of shows at Radio City Music Hall, performed on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, Live! with Regis and Kelly, The Martha Stewart Show, and ABC News Live. She was also in a commercial featuring the Rockettes that ran for many years. Over the years Katie performed in dance festivals, cabaret showcases, DanceBreak, the Ace Awards, and many industry events. Her favorite performances in New York City include premiering a lead role in an original show The Last Bite at the United Palace Theatre, dancing a featured role in Al Blackstone’s Freddie Falls In Love at the Signature Theatre and Joyce Theater, and dancing in Al’s first full-length work, Happy We’ll Be, at the Roseland Ballroom.

AN EMERGING CHOREOGRAPHER.

Katie began choreographing at a very young age and furthered her pursuits at SMU. In NYC, Katie has gained extensive knowledge working with Al Blackstone as an Associate Choreographer. She has played this role in productions of Oklahoma!, Hairspray and Pippin at Music Theatre Wichita, The Noteworthy Life of Howard Barnes at the Village Theatre, and the La La Land segment of the Oscar Special for Good Morning America. She also assisted Al on works at University of the Arts and Marymount Manhattan College. 

Katie choreographs at dance studios all across the country. Her pieces range in tone, feel, and style but she always maintains a focus on the emotional arc. She works with professional dancers and friends on video projects with the intention of making a statement and difference with her art. She has presented work at the Highbridge Arts Festival in NYC. She also showcased a piece of work at the Steps Professional Performance Workshop to industry professionals in March 2020. Her work has also been performed at SMU and Princeton University.

AN EXPERIENCED EDUCATOR.

Katie has over a decade of experience educating dancers of all levels. She teaches workshops and classes at dance studios across the country to kids and adults. She teaches a range of styles but focuses on musical theater, jazz, contemporary, and lyrical. She has also guest taught at Princeton University and Dance Masters of America (PA), and returns to teach jazz at SMU every fall. She is currently on faculty at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center. 

Additionally, she co-founded an organization, HEART, which brings dance workshops to studios around the country with the mission of giving back to various charities and dancing free of judgment and full of love. She has also traveled to Prague and taught at an international musical theater workshop where she developed movement for a production of Little Women. 

Katie’s classes are full of soulful music, storytelling, and expansive movement.
